Opportunity Snapshot

If you like the idea of flexible hours, meeting new people in fresh venues, and visiting new cities, it is time you looked into the National Notary Association (NNA). We are the nationally and internationally recognized professional association for America's Notaries Public, and the authority and thought leader for the profession. In this role you will become the face of the NNA for many Notaries, helping them launch and build successful careers.

You will travel throughout California (primarily) and the nation to deliver a standardized program preparing people to pass the state Notary exam; in the future you may cover other topics as well. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have experience training adult learners and an engaging and energetic presentation style. If you're already a Notary yourself, great; if not, we'll train you. You also will need to truly enjoy the flexibility that comes with this role, not merely be willing to put up with it. We're looking for a professional with strong customer service skills and the resourcefulness to maintain poise and improvise in diverse situations.

The NNA is a stable, progressive organization that has over 50 years of success supporting Notaries with an entrepreneurial and forward-thinking approach. While other organizations are cutting back, the NNA is growing, offering a degree of stability in an uncertain economy.

What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
  • A bachelor's degree from a US regionally or nationally accredited university.
  • Excellent presentation skills, including the ability to represent complex topics in simple terms by showing relevant examples gathered from professional experience.
  • Two to four years of experience in classroom instruction in either a corporate or educational environment.
  • A willingness to acquire and maintain expertise in notary matters.
  • The ability to "think on your feet" to respond to questions that may not be covered in the materials.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and automobile insurance.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software is a plus.
You also will need to be willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time, and be willing and available to work up to two Saturdays a month.

What's in It for You

Help people and the profession -- the education you provide will help people launch a high potential career and keep their skills current, a valuable service at a time when many are exploring career options. You'll also contribute to maintaining the high standards of a profession that is in demand now more than ever -- consider the growing incidence of fraud and identity theft, for example.

Flexibility by design -- on average you'll present 10 to 12 seminars a month; a week typically includes two to three seminars and at least one office day. With travel and set up, seminar days can be fairly long, running 10 to 12 hours, so we give you a good deal of flexibility in scheduling office days and days off around the seminar schedule. In return we'll look to you to "go with the flow" if and when we have to make changes.

Career options -- this is a great situation whether you want to focus exclusively on delivering professional seminars or grow the role to get involved with program development or other areas. You'll join a large Educational Services Group and, once you have settled into the role, you may facilitate interactive seminars, customize curriculum for corporate clients, help develop curriculum, and more.

The nation's leader -- none of our competitors even come close to NNA's size, scope, and influence. We offer services and products for every stage of a Notary's career, from obtaining an original commission to ongoing education, professional supplies, bonds and insurance, emerging technologies, and more.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive hourly rate and monthly incentive program, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, life, and disability insurance; a 401(k) plan; generous profit sharing; a defined benefit plan; 12 paid holidays; and generous paid time off.

More About Your Role

If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Seminar Instruction, you will join a team of 12 active Seminar Instructors. To start off you will deliver a training program that provides three key benefits to attendees: it fulfills the state mandated training requirement to become licensed or renew a license; it prepares attendees to pass the state Notary exam; and it prepares them to practice as a successful Notary.

Typically your seminar will be paired with the administration of the state exam, delivered by a state-certified proctor shortly after the seminar. While not all the attendees will test that same day, this arrangement will provide you with feedback regarding passing rates, which will be your key metric. In addition to delivering the material, you'll set up the room, check people in, respond to questions about the content, and handle procedural inquiries.

During your office days you'll prepare and update materials, make logistical arrangements (such as scheduling the materials to be delivered) and maintain your personal subject-area knowledge. You'll travel throughout California and, about once a month, to other states. In general we schedule the instructors two months out.

Each of our employees goes through a structured education program that provides the essential knowledge of the Notary Public profession and develops important understanding of how the NNA serves the nearly 5 million Notaries.

We also have opportunities for part time Seminar Instructors in the San Francisco Bay Area, Central California, Inland Empire, and Orange/San Diego Counties. Keys to Success

To excel in this role you will employ a dynamic presentation style that engages the attention of learners even when the material is dry. Our best Seminar Instructors are detail oriented, mature and able to work independently as well as contribute to the team. They also are very committed, investing time and effort into knowing the profession and the material. Being the thought leader for the nation's Notaries means maintaining an unwavering commitment to the moral and ethical integrity that is fundamental to the profession, and we'll expect you, as the face of the NNA, to conduct yourself with the same high standards.

If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!

Who We Are

A dynamic, rapidly growing, respected, and influential organization, we work closely with diverse industries and government to implement sound consumer-protection and antifraud programs; we are the leader and authority on electronic notarization of e-documents, an emerging business with tremendous growth potential for the NNA and our members.
