Opportunity Snapshot

This position offers you the opportunity to showcase both your creativity and your project management skills as you take on a marketing professional's dream challenge: we have several hundred thousand customers (including 250,000 members) in the Notary profession, but there are almost 5 million Notaries Public in the US, with strong concentrations in a handful of key states. Your mission will be to bring a new level of strategic planning and execution to our direct marketing efforts, showcasing your innovation across all our offerings. While other organizations are cutting back, the National Notary Association (NNA) is growing, including a strategic initiative to expand our marketing team.

To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have broad experience in direct marketing, ideally with the retention and acquisition of customers, and a track record of delivering measurable results. What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
  • A bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business or related field.

  • The ability to articulate a compelling business case in support of proposed programs and initiatives, and to direct and influence others to achieve timely results.
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to draft effective marketing and advertising copy that clearly articulates the value proposition and call to action; experience doing your own copywriting is a plus.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, hands-on environment.

More About Your Role

If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.

Reporting to the Direct Marketing Manager, you will join a team that also includes the Director of Marketing and Member Services, the Group Marketing Manager and Interactive Marketing Manger, five Program Managers (including this position), two support Specialists, a Creative Services team of two, and three in Production. This group is the primary driver of direct marketing activities that promote membership, education, and products and services essential to the Notary profession, and we operate across the US through direct mail, online marketing and telemarketing. We also support NNA's Corporate Services Group, currently serving nearly 1,200 corporate members including leading organizations in banking and financial services, insurance, legal services, government, health care, and other industries.

We take a project-based approach to direct marketing and any of the Program Managers may respond to an identified opportunity. For example, you may bring your talents to bear on developing integrated programs to articulate the value and benefits of NNA membership, and to deliver on that value. We'll look to you both to build on existing strengths and to bring fresh and innovative ideas to all your projects.

In general, ideas for programs and projects may come from anyone on the team, and often they are market-driven, such as in response to changes in laws impacting Notaries. Once we have an idea, you'll do a little research and analysis, and develop a concept along with a business case justification. Once approved, you'll coordinate among the necessary internal resources to implement the idea. You can expect to be working on multiple projects and varying size and scope at any given time. It might be an email blast to 15,000 targeted recipients, taking less than two weeks from idea to implementation and involving only yourself and an IT professional. At the other end of the spectrum, you might lead a complex team effort in anticipation of an event months in the future, involving writers, graphic designers, the production team, and IT. Your main objectives will include:
  • Developing, communicating, and delivering NNA products, services, and benefits to target audiences in order to grow our revenue streams profitably.
  • Increasing NNA's market share.
  • Keeping abreast of the emerging needs of Notaries to ensure that NNA's mission and offerings "come to life" for them.
  • Leveraging NNA resources and expertise to uncover marketing opportunities.
Each of our employees goes through a structured education program that provides the essential knowledge of the Notary Public profession and develops important understanding of how the NNA serves the nearly 5 million Notaries.
