The Requirements

To be a good fit for the Content Manager opportunity you should have:
  • A bachelor's or master's Degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, Business Administration, or a relevant field of work, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Six to ten years of progressive and related experience in managing writers, editors and content developers in an editorial environment. The ideal candidate also will have:
    • Experience developing and implementing effective content distribution strategies across multiple channels.
    • Strong working knowledge of SEO, SEM and content marketing, along with the ability to generate and interpret analytics reports measuring content performance.
    • The ability to shape content, video assets, graphics and other content types into valuable assets for our digital marketing strategies.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop editorial content strategies and interactive marketing campaigns.
  • Experience managing editorial and creative teams, and coordinating with other departments and stakeholders.
  • Experience with multi-channel content planning, including print, web, mobile, social, email, and video.
  • An understanding of content management systems (CMS), content operations and how to plan for CMS use of content assets.

The Role

You will report to the Director Communications and provide leadership in a program that includes three departments. You'll oversee Editorial, including two writers, directly; this team is responsible for all print and online publications. Quick question for you - click here In addition you'll work closely with the Social Media team, charged with building interactive communities, and the Public Affairs team, which handles internal and external publicity and public relations. We have built this team over the past few years and our individual programs are strong. Your mission will be to tie the programs and disciplines together and drive cohesive communications programs. This will include shaping the print and online editorial strategies for all content types, all brands, and channels. You'll guide and mentor writers, editors and proofreaders to ensure the quality of all of the NNA's print and digital content.

The NNA is a content-rich organization, and its success relies upon continuous development and distribution of quality, engaging content that keeps our national community abuzz. Your three main objectives will include:
  • Creating, developing and executing editorial calendars for our print magazine and for our online content channels; this includes our online newsletter, the Notary Bulletin, as well as an encyclopedic content marketing stream of how-to information and FAQs.
  • Developing and implementing strategies for content development, integration, distribution, and post-launch optimization, maximizing content across multiple channels.
  • Ensuring effective SEO and SEM campaigns to maximize impact, engagement and ROI from our integrated content strategies.
More specifically, you will:
  • Lead the Editorial team to create content strategies across all channels and brands; and provide coaching, development, and mentoring.
  • Develop and manage the organizations editorial/content calendar and print production schedule.
  • Assign and oversee the work of key editorial staff members to produce high-quality communications content that is relevant and valuable to the NNA's various audience segments.
  • Recruit, assign and manage the work of outside contributors, including freelance writers and members.
  • Interact with executives, directors and key department managers to develop content plans in support of NNA initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies for maximizing the effectiveness of our content across a variety of distribution channels.
  • Integrate content activities within marketing, social media and PR campaigns.
  • Prepare budgets; identify and recommend efficiency and cost-saving improvements.
  • Conceptualize compelling content that works with visual design elements to drive engagement.
  • Develop standards, systems and best practices for content creation, distribution, maintenance, retrieval, and repurposing; develop and manage content library and content governance process.
  • Create strong, consultative relationships with NNA members, community members, peers, key stakeholders and consultants.
